The Rough Mill Spindles for POSCO Pohang's 2nd Wire Rod line were previously supplied exclusively by Japan's NAKAMURA JICO, chosen for their proven performance in rolling billets from the reheating furnace. However, the high cost and lead time exceeding 10 months posed significant challenges in maintaining spare parts and establishing planned maintenance schedules. Furthermore, frequent bolt replacements, as requested by the maintenance department, resulted in production losses.

Based on feedback from the maintenance department, an initial two-year effort focused on repairs and performance improvements. This process demonstrated the feasibility of domestic development, culminating in the successful localization of RM Spindles for all #1 to #11 Stands. This achievement has enabled cost reductions and the timely delivery of components.
