Jeong Hyunsoo, Assistant Manager

Production Group, Production Technology Pohang
Q. Could you please introduce your responsibilities or the projects you are working on?

I am responsible for improving the machinery and equipment used in production within the company. I inspect the production processes in each plant, identify equipment that requires improvement or is causing inconvenience, and, if necessary, sketch or take photos of equipment and components to create blueprints. Based on these, I enhance the machines and install them in the field.

Q. What knowledge or skills are required to perform your duties effectively?

Knowledge of machinery, equipment, and design is essential, along with the ability to implement these skills. An understanding of mechanical processes and an ability to grasp the characteristics of equipment are also critical.

Q. Could you tell us about the atmosphere or culture of your department (work style, department-specific rules, etc.)?

When creating basic designs for machines or parts that need improvement, senior colleagues provide thorough explanations of the design direction and offer review and advice. The senior staff and colleagues within the company are very communicative, which makes it easier to carry out my work.

Q. What is one thing your department is fully committed to in the course of your work?

We are dedicated to quickly identifying safety threats or near-miss occurrences on the production floor and figuring out how to resolve them through equipment design or improvements. We also focus sincerely on improving equipment that reduces production efficiency or makes it inconvenient for operators.

Q. How do you primarily communicate and drive work forward? What do you consider the most important aspect of your work process?

I actively communicate and discuss improvements for inconvenient processes and tasks with the on-site workers. I consider the workers on the production floor as my customers, so their needs and safety are my top priority. After holding internal meetings within our department to discuss how to improve the actual equipment, we proceed with the design. The most important factors I focus on are worker safety and time savings in the production process, which I prioritize when designing equipment.
