Yang Dongcheol, Manager

Q. Could you please introduce your responsibilities?
I am responsible for not only purchasing goods but also ensuring mutual benefit with our partners and suppliers while focusing on cost reduction. This includes researching and selecting suppliers for materials and goods, negotiating prices, and establishing purchasing plans. After obtaining approvals, purchase orders are processed, and I manage inventory and the supply chain.
Q. What knowledge or skills are required to perform your duties effectively?
Analytical skills for assessing the quality of materials and goods, market research abilities, and strong negotiation and collaboration skills are essential. Logical thinking is also necessary, and, due to the nature of the job, having a valid driver’s license is a requirement.
Q. What are the advantages or appealing aspects of working for our company?
The company guarantees regular working hours and time off, which allows for personal development or pursuing hobbies. Additionally, bonuses for holidays like Seollal and Chuseok, as well as summer vacation support, are provided. The company also offers an internal sports club (football), which promotes camaraderie and a healthy lifestyle.
Q. What is one thing that your department is fully committed to in the course of your work?
Our department head is affectionately nicknamed ‘Negotiation King’ because of his dedication to managing company expenses and cost reduction. I can confidently say that we are deeply committed to managing the company’s finances. I have also learned from this and become more skilled at negotiating prices with suppliers.
Q. Having built your career over time, you must have gained various experiences. How have these experiences helped you in your current role? Do you have any particularly memorable episodes?
As our company is manufacturing-based, there are frequent situations requiring responses to production site needs. My previous experience working on production lines has been very helpful. I can now quickly identify the tools or materials needed in the manufacturing process and set standards for the use of various consumables. Additionally, my communication with on-site employees has become much smoother.
Q. How do you primarily communicate and drive work forward? What do you consider the most important aspect of your work process?
When a draft is submitted, I first review the purchasing records and align opinions with colleagues to move the process forward. The most crucial aspect during the execution of this process is the cost of the goods. I gather estimates from several suppliers and proceed accordingly.
